Highlands and Islands

Over the last few years we have been holidaying in Scotland mainly in the Highlands and Islands visiting
We started touring with a Trailer tent but then decided that we would rather have the flexibility of a /camper van so got Lemmy our silver machine
Orkney

A few years ago we took the day ferry to Orkney while we were holidaying near Inverness there is a bus trip that leaves Inerness early in the morning to catch the ferry to Orkney then takes you back again to Inverness for later that day
A few pictures from Neolithic Orkney near and around Brodgar
The following year we took our holidays to Orkney and Shetland
Shetland
Hebrides
North West Highlands
While on the West coast we visited Oban
If in Oban try to make sure that you visit the surrounding area since a lo has been written about Oban here are a few of our favourite location nearby
Kerrera a small island off Oban it can be reached via a ferry at Oban harbour or at the ferry south of the town
St. Conan’s Kirk is a few miles from Oban and a must stop location St Conan’s Kirk is located in the village of Loch Awe in Argyll.
Also near Oban is Dunstaffnage castle this is as the leaflets and books at the information/ticket office on site tells you is ‘how a child would draw a castle’
This again is well worth a visit
Cross the Bridge near / over the Falls of Lora then drive also the other side of the lower reaches of Loch Etive and try to visit the Bonawe Iron Furnace and Ardchattan Priory
Here are a few pictures from these two attractions
Of course you must not forget to have a trip to Mull then the short boat trip to Staffa and Iona to visit these two iconic locations
Between Oban and Ullapool is the village of Poolewe one your way up the coast makes sure that you have a stop in this area
